At The Border

A Meeting Place for Those Who Aren’t Afraid of the Border

Podcast #4 is up. In “The ‘D’ Word” we talk a bit about doctrine. If you are following contemporary events in the church at all, you know that, doctrine has come to be treated like a swear word in many circles. A growing number of pastors and (ironically) theologians have decided that doctrine is boring, irrelevant and/or dangerous.

Some people, convinced that “doctrine divides,” have decided that it’s best for the church to proceed with a vague sense of trust in a vaguely understood “Jesus” who, in some vague way, gives us a better way to live.

Others accuse those who care about doctrine of being “modern.” That is, they believe that Christians who define and defend doctrine are letting the concerns of philosophy dominate Christian life. No doubt, some theologians do that. But the fact that some people have used a good thing poorly doesn’t mean that good thing should be thrown out like a used kleenex.

The fact is, doctrine is a gift from God to humankind! The Lord wants us to understand who He is, who we are and why we’re here. Doctrine is a roadmap in the journey to understanding and experiencing Truth! When understood and used rightly, doctrine is one of the most important tools in discipleship.

In “The ‘D’ Word,” we’re going to discuss these things with a youth pastor who blends the True Truth of good doctrine with the Real World that teens live in.
