This summer, I began to catch some glimmers of a new movement in atheism. Various forces have been at work, independently of each other, but now they’ve gathered together into a perfect storm, a cultural tsunami. You’ve got philosophers like Daniel Dennett & Sam Harris, scientists like Richard Dawkins & Jared Diamond, and filmmakers like the creators of “The God Who Wasn’t There” (http://www.amazon.com/God-Who-Wasnt-There/dp/B000CAPZBC/sr=8-1/qid=1166636759/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-6260846-8146216?ie=UTF8&s=dvd), This group has begun an active assault on religion (in general) and Christianity (in particular), taking their message outside the academy and onto the streets.
Sqarely in the crosshairs are those who try to find some “middle ground” between religion and scientific naturalism (see “BorderLines” vol 3, issue 5: http://www.borderlandsweb.com/Borderlines/05SeptOct06WebVersion.pdf). On the one hand, I’m glad to see an honest debate taking place. There is no true middle ground between the opposing worldviews of Christian Theism and Scientific Naturalism. However, on the other, I’m deeply saddened. This group, in an effort to make unbelief “cool”, has launched a video campagin for those who want to deny God publicly. The video below has met an amazing response from the YouTube community. Take a second, watch it. You might just cover your mouth.
Wow, that is truly sad. I guess it cannot be said that this group of angry people will unwillingly spend eternity separated from their Creator.
Seems kind of like an updated version of satanism - must be that the black robes and weird haircuts were getting dated.
