I put this preview for our video “Why Sex? A Christian Response to the Challenge of Homosexuality” up on YouTube. We’ve had nearly 1,000 views and even a few comments. I thought I’d post it here and get some comments from our loyal readers.
By the way, you can order this video from us (just shoot me an e-mail to find out how).
Adam:
Who is this video geared toward? Is it sex in general or homosexuality in particular?

Hey Tony. It’s specifically geared towards the question of homosexuality. I always seek to frame the basic question of sex within the overall question of God’s created intention for humanity. There are a host of sexual issues that should be explored by the Church right now. But this particular issue is one that is challenging Christians to understand and articulate biblical Truth.

You’re right on that. This specific aspect of sexuality is front-and-center and will be for some time. We are being “forced” to reckon with it on all levels…and now in the church.
To me, the biggest issue in this vein is adoption. We need to step up and protect our children. Do you address that aspect of the issue?

The adoption issue is huge. I didn’t cover it in the lecture, though. Instead, I focused on three lines of attack being leveled against the Christian doctrine: Claims of Psychology, Claims of the Heart (compassion), Claims of Biblical Interpretation.
I gave the lecture at a Christian College. One of the professors there had just written a book called: “What God Has Joined Together: The Christian Case for Gay Marriage” and was giving seminars on the topic (really confusing a lot of Christian kids). Without using the profs name at all, i basically tried to dismantle his central claims. I also sent him a copy of the DVD with a gracious note. He replied with thanks. I’m not sure that he ever got around to watching the video, though.

Okay, so this is a response to a professor. Man, I thought that i had it bad at Loyoal University with all the “new theology”. It seems like it’s everywhere. Was this at Calvin College?
I need to get a hold of this series. How do I do that?
I am particularly interested in the Biblical Interpretation piece.

Hey Tony…This stuff is everywhere. You’d be surprised what is taught in many religion, psychology, and philosophy departments in Christian schools. This was Hope College.
As far as the DVDs are concerned, we suggest a $12 dollar donation for the 2-DVD disc set. For the most part, that helps us cover materials/shipping/production. But price is never a barrier for anyone. If that is out of range for folks, we just ask them to send us an e-mail and do what they can.
A check with “Why Sex DVD” in the memo line is all you need (and a shipping address as well, otherwise, we just ship to the address on the check).

Adam:
Your opinion: What are the safest colleges in America?
Where can you send a kid to learn the truth nowadays?

ohh, which college. I’ll be interested to hear the Adam take on that one.
i’ll say, its a tough call. you can go to a christian school and be taught some pretty liberal stuff that isn’t the truth. which is a shame because you’d figure that wouldn’t be the case.
honestly, i went to a private school through 8th grade and public high school and a small liberal arts college. i knew in advance what i would be getting myself into in the public arena. granted not everyday is easy by anymeans, but i did survive. so even in the midst of the fires, there is hope out there. you have to pray alot as a parent and as a student yourself.
that’s my take and i’ll leave the true answer to adam.

Hey Guys! Great to hear these comments. Tony, that’s a really tough question!!! I’ll do my best. I’ve heard some good things about Taylor College (Indiana). Cornerstone University and Kuyper College in Grand Rapids have pretty good reputations. Trinity University (Deerfield, IL) has a phenomenal seminary. I can’t speak to the undergrad programme with any certainty. Wheaton will give you great academics, but my impression is that they’ve moved a bit from their classical evangelical roots.
In short, this is a question I’m not qualified to answer at present. There are a ton of colleges out there. Many, I’m sure, are good.
The safest bet is to e-mail the chair of religious or biblical studies and ask them what they believe about inerrancy!!! But even that doesn’t mean much. The fact is, I’m not, at present, aware of a Christian college that is strong on placing every department under the authority of Scripture while maintaining a rigorous academic standard (including exploring alternative philosophies, etc).
That certainly does not mean they’re not out there. But I probably need to do some more research before recommending some and/or warning against others.
