At The Border

A Meeting Place for Those Who Aren’t Afraid of the Border

  1. Last night, I wanted to cheer for the first black president in America. I think it is a good thing that Americans are willing to vote for a non-white - this may not have been possible even four years ago.

However, I am sad today, because Barack Obama is the most pro-abortion candidate in U.S. history and he has already stood on a stage at Planned Parenthood and promised to derail every existing restriction on abortion that he possibly can. He promised that this would be the very first action of his presidency. What saddens me even more than this, is that many Christians are ok with this. It makes me wonder what other things Christians are ok with.

  2. Adam, that was my thought today exactly. It reminds me of when the people of Israel demanded a king. They got Saul. In the end maybe it was not quite what they expected. It is crazy to think men will solve your problems. It starts and stays with God. And Derek, that is a very astute observation. It has been reported that 40% of this nation knowingly voted for Obama. If they are Christians, what were they thinking when it came to the sanctity of life? I too agree that we live in a great nation that can elect a person to the highest office who not too long ago in our nations history would have trouble running for a local position. We have come a long way in 232 years. As an American I am proud. There is one thing that is certain. I expect President Obama to make the same bonehead mistakes all of the other presidents have made. I believe there will be a lot of disappointment when people find out that a man can not make them happy. I will look for the ones who want to hear about Jesus who will never let us down.

  3. Adam and all:

Yes, yes, yes…Jesus Christ is our hope and truth. Amen!

A few observations on the election:

Over 90% of blacks voted for Barack.

Over 90% of blacks are self-proclaimed Christians.

America went for Barack because, above all else, America worships the God of “personal peace and affluency” (Francis Schaeffer). They watched their houses and 401K lose value and reacted out of fear.

Abortion hasn’t stabbed the conscience of most self-proclaimed Christians as a “make or break” issue when voting.

American’s vote to be winners. They don’t vote to make a statement.

In all of this, I hope that the “Christian Right” will realize that we are not a Christian nation and that the Christian life has always been, and always should be, a counter-cultural reality.

    peace,

    Tony
