Thanks Adam (and Marc)! This is really helpful. I think our churches really need to see and hear this message. So often when we start thinking about the ways that we can help those who are in poverty, we look for quick solutions — which really aren’t about helping the poor at all. These quick and easy solutions are really just ways for us to appease our guilt–guilt that comes from the fact that we have so much and they have so little, and we so often have so little compassion. So we throw them some money, or a food basket, or a few nice toys–just so that we feel better about ourselves. This is a great message that should keep us from those easy, one-time “solutions”, but should also challenge us to be the ones on the front lines, building relationships, bringing real dignity to people, and loving them the way Christ loved them. Great stuff!

This really is nice. Thanks to Marc and to you for sharing. What is impressive is the obviously different backgrounds the speakers come from with the same conclusions: This is what Jesus wants and the Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the grave will empower you with the strength to get down in the trenches and have the endurance to bring the good news to ones who are poor in spirit. Our small church, Life Changing Ministries & Fellowship in Sugar Land, Texas has around 60 people. There are 16 men who are heads of households. When the men meet we sincerely talk about how to share what God has given us with the world around us. We give money when we can but we don’t have a lot. We are convinced that it is our time and love that will be the most effective and as one of the speakers said, it can get messy, it can cause personal pain and discomfort and it is long term. You truly count the cost. At the end of it all we know that God has placed us together and equipped us for a time such as this. It feels good to know that if Jesus came today He would find us trying hard to do what He said to do. Thanks, Adam.
